The end of the January transfer window has not stopped Arsenal being linked with signing more players as Mikel Arteta looks to put his stamp on The Gunners as manager – and the latest player is Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
A report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing Celtic 22-year-old Edouard, who has been in stunning form for Celtic in their pursuit of nine in a row. He has scored 23 goals, and laid on 16 assists in 37 games.
He initially joined Celtic on loan from Paris Saint-Germain under Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2017, before joining permanently for around £9million a year later. He has since scored 56 goals and created 28 in 118 outings.
But Arsenal are not the only side interested in landing Edouard – who has 11 goals in six France Under-21 caps. According to 90Min, Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on bringing Edouard down south to north London.
So, with the two north London clubs potentialy going head to head for Edouard when the season finishes – which club needs him more? Certainly, in January, Tottenham desperately needed a striker but failed to bring in cover for Harry Kane.
The England skipper’s torn hamstring has seen Spurs use Lucas Moura up front but the Brazilian is predominantly a winger, while Son Heung-min is also preferred out wide. Troy Parrott has only just turned 18 years of age.
Tottenham certainly need a striker, then. But it is whether Spurs can convince a player with the potential and calibre of Edouard to come and play back-up to Kane. Edouard may only get the odd start, and he is likely to be against that.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are well-stocked up front. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are being pushed by teenager Gabriel Martinelli this season. But Aubameyang has been linked with Barcelona, especially by Spanish media.
Lacazette is far from the player that first joined Arsenal, and the duo could be tempted to leave this summer. That may mean the Gunners could do with a striker and if both leave, they may need a forward more so than Spurs.
Celtic reportedly value Edouard at £30million, as per the Record.
