Arsenal are being linked with a move for Watford defender, Christian Kabasele this weekend.
Reports from the Daily Star claim that the Gunners, along with Manchester United, are keen on landing the Watford star.
Kabasele has been a vital cog in the system as Nigel Pearson has turned things around at Vicarage Road. Another win at Bournemouth today has seen the Hornets clamber out of the relegation places under Pearson.
Of course, a number of players have been vital to the turn-around, but Kabasele has epitomised everything good about the Watford team under Pearson.
Strong, quick, and seemingly willing to put his body on the line, Kabasele has been the glue holding the Watford defence together.
So with Arsenal now interested in the 28-year-old, would they finally be solving a long-standing problem position?
Something they’ve not had for a while
Throughout the 90s and early 2000s, Arsenal were a team who prided themselves on being strong at the back.
Tony Adams was the obvious leader before the likes of Sol Campbell continued the trend of the Gunners having strong central defenders.
Since then, though, Arsenal have struggled to replicate those players. Laurent Koscielny did well for a period, however, a number of other defenders have fallen by the wayside.
At the moment, the likes of David Luiz, Callum Chambers, and Sokratis are not doing the best job of keeping things tight at the back. Indeed, the Gunners have conceded 31 goals. That’s more than Brighton, who are all the way down in 14th place.
Therefore, the signing of Kabasele would make huge sense.
As we’ve seen with Watford in recent weeks, Kabasele can be dominant when he wants to be. He’s got all the attributes and physical capabilities to play for a Champions League challenging club. His form has coincided with a run of four wins from five games for the Hornets.
If Arsenal are serious about succeeding under Mikel Arteta, then an addition like Christian Kabasele has to be top of the agenda come the summer months.
