TBR View: Arsenal can find perfect Emiliano Martinez replacement for £4.3million

As Arsenal start to dissect what has been a horrible season for them, they’ll be looking back towards all the mistakes that have resulted in their failure.

Mikel Arteta’s side have won no silverware this campaign, and look likely to miss out on European qualification for next year unless there is a results swing in their favour during the remaining few games of the season.

One of the biggest frustrations for Gunners supporters was the sale of Emiliano Martinez last summer. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been one of the Premier League’s very best performers since his move to Aston Villa.

It was a toss up between him or Bernd Leno to be the Arsenal number one at the Emirates Stadium, and the frustration can’t exist due to picking one over the other.

However, the north London club got it wrong when it came to signing Martinez’s replacement.

Arsenal previously had a top-class shot-stopper in reserve as Leno’s understudy, but Runar Alex Runarsson has been a flop signing.

It’s got to be the aim to have two quality players in each position, which is why they need to search the marker for a new goalkeeper.

If Arenal look towards German club Borussia Dortmund, they might find their answer to signing the perfect Martinez replacement.

Roman Burki, 30, is an experienced goalkeeper that would be excellent competition for Leno next season at the Emirates.

The Swiss shot-stopper has had an eye-catching career with Dortmund, keeping 83 clean sheets in 229 appearances.

As he enters the final two years of his deal with the Bundesliga side, France Football reports that Monaco are potentially interested in the goalkeeper.

It is explained that he could be allowed to leave by Dortmund for €5million (4.3million) this summer.

Burki has been unable to break back into the starting XI in the past couple of months since returning from a shoulder problem, but he’s proven in his career he can find on the top stages.

His bargain price makes him a no-brainer for Arsenal, and there is a chance he could be a genuine contender for Leno.
