Erik ten Hag has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Jose Mourinho as the new Tottenham boss, according to trusted transfer source Fabrizio Romano.

He claims that a direct meeting between the two parties has been scheduled as Spurs try and ramp up their attempts to appoint a new manager ahead of next season.

Landing the Dutch manager could be a good move for Tottenham as it could help them land a player they have held a long-term affection for – and one who is absolutely perfect for Tottenham.

Calciomercato claimed around a year ago that David Neres was a target for Spurs and bringing Ten Hag to North London could help them finally seal a deal.

It is thought that Ajax value the 24-year-old forward in the region of £54 million and he will have suitors across Europe if the Dutch giants decide to sell.

The Brazilian has scored eight goals and claimed three assists during 2020/21, despite missing some of the campaign with an ankle problem.

During the 2018/19 campaign, Neres showcased his talents with 12 goals and 15 assists as Ajax came within a whisker of the Champions League Final.

Neres can operate on either flank or as a No.10 and adding him to the squad would give the team a much-needed boost in the final third.

The likes of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura have done okay but it’s fair to say that better options will be required to take the club forward.

Tottenham won’t have the Champions League to entice players but they could use Ten Hag as a manager capable of bringing some players with him.

Neres has played some wonderful football under the Dutch manager and on £50,000-a-week, Spurs could get themselves a sound signing.
