TBR Flashback: Ruthless Spurs deliver rampant display as £22m ace nets magical effort

Tottenham Hotspur may have not had much to shout about this season but one Spurs game that stands out was back in December, when Jose Mourinho’s side put Burnley to the sword at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs went into the game having succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away at Mourinho’s old club Manchester United and were eager to make amends after their winning streak under their new head coach had come to an end.

Burnley, meanwhile, were an unpredictable proposition, usually strong at home but having struggled on the road at times, but any anxiety from Tottenham’s end was swiftly blown away in the opening 10 minutes.

Harry Kane had opened the scoring just four minutes in with a ferocious effort from range before Lucas Moura drove home from point-blank range following a scramble in the ninth minute.

Then came Son Heung-min’s simply sensational solo effort, a contender for goal of the season.

The £22million ace control of the ball on the edge of his own box and surging forward, completely slicing through the Clarets defence before applying a clinical finish to make it 3-0 just after the half-hour mark.

Although Burnley had chances of their own, Robbie Brady notably hitting the woodwork, there was no fear of a comeback and Kane subsequently made it four on 54 minutes after making a mockery of the opposition back line and rifling home.

Moussa Sissoko added the cherry on top after he also cut through the Burnley defence with ease and slotted past Nick Pope in the 74th minute.

The result moved Tottenham six points off the top four of the Premier League table and Spurs fans were ecstatic on social media:
