Lyon continued their excellent Champions League form this season with a resilient performance against Barcelona last night. The French side were excellent at denying the Catalan giants, with one player, in particular, putting in a memorable display.
Tanguy Ndombele was sensational in the heart of the Lyon midfield. He was brilliant defensively but also showed tremendous precision and quality whilst in possession of the ball. The Barca midfielders were outshone by his display, and there are few better compliments than that in European football.
It is a performance like this that, quite simply, suggests Everton have no chance of signing him.

The Liverpool Echo first reported Everton’s interest in the player back in November. The report claimed Everton scouts had been keeping an eye on the player for some time and glowing reports had been returned to Goodison Park.
Apparent interest from far richer and currently more prestigious clubs was, however, likely to make Everton’s pursuit difficult.
Last night’s display makes it look impossible. Sky Sports reported earlier this month that Tottenham, Manchester City, and Manchester United are all keen on the player. After watching this performance they might even be willing to pay the £72 million asking price reported by Goal.
Everton can forget this overly ambitious move and start thinking more realistically ahead of the summer.
