Reports in France are suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are the front-runners for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. Le10 Sport reports Spurs could be ahead of Manchester United, Juventus and PSG in the running. Spurs could guarantee the talented midfielder regular football, which appears to be their advantage.
Recent reports from AS in Spain suggest that Ndombele could be as expensive as €80 million (£68 million) this summer. That is a stumbling block Tottenham would also have to overcome.
But notice, there is no mention of interest from Everton. The Toffees had identified Ndombele as a transfer target some time ago. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Everton were interested as recently as last November.
Unfortunately, his performances have caught the scent of bigger sharks. Everton now have little chance of signing the midfield general.
However, news of Tottenham leading the race will be welcomed by Everton. Because if Spurs splash out big on Ndombele, surely they will not come calling for Everton loanee Andre Gomes?
As reported by the Telegraph last week, Tottenham are ready to spend £30 million to steal the Barcelona-owned Portuguese international away from Goodison Park.
If Everton can keep hold of Gomes as a consequence, then watching their one-time target head elsewhere might be a price they are willing to pay.
