Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has been ruled out of this weekend’s Premier League game against West Ham United.

Frank Lampard delivered the news in his Friday press conference, after the England striker had limped out of the Champions League clash with Valencia on Wednesday.

Abraham worried supporters as he left the pitch on a stretcher, but the 22-year-old downplayed the severity of the issue after the game.

“It’s much better. At the time I was fearful of the worst,” Abraham told BT Sport (quoted by The Daily Mail).

“I got in and was able to walk again, move about, so I’m thankful and hopefully it’s not too long.

West Ham will be somewhat relieved the red-hot Abraham isn’t available, but unfortunately for the Irons the man likely to replace him has a very respectable record against them.

TBR’s view – Giroud a new problem for West Ham

The Hammers may be hoping Lampard turns to Michy Batshuayi, as World Cup winner Olivier Giroud has struck six times in 12 Premier League appearances against them during his time in English football.

He’s made just six appearances so far this season, only two of which have been starts – but West Ham could be a fixture Lampard is willing to throw him into given his record.

Historically, Frenchman Giroud has been a thorn in the Irons’ side – he also has three assists against them.

Should he get the nod over Batshuayi then Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna or Fabian Balbuena must ensure they bring their A-games for a player who will be raring to make the most of his chance.
