This morning, Tammy Abraham completed a season long loan move to Bristol City from parent club Chelsea. Abraham is an 18 year old 6 ft 3 forward who has a phenomenal goal scoring record at youth level – netting 74 times in 98 appearances.
He has won the FA Youth Cup twice and the UEFA Youth League twice with Chelsea, and his form was rewarded at the end of last season where he made two first team appearances for the Blues.
The England under-19 international also spent some time with the Chelsea first team squad on their tour of the USA, after Antonio Conte granted him permission to link up with the ‘big boys’.
At Bristol City, Abraham joins a team starting out in their second season in the Championship and their first in the all new redeveloped Ashton Gate.
When Head Coach Lee Johnson announced his squad numbers early this week, a glaring omission was the vacant #9 shirt, leading many to believe a striker was going to be brought in, with perhaps the prestige of the #9 shirt being part of package to lure the mystery player to BS3.
This was proven correct when Tammy Abraham was announced on a season long loan, interestingly with no recall clause given to Chelsea.
Here is how Twitter reacted, mainly a mixture of Chelsea fans wishing one of their own good luck, and Bristol City fans excited by the signing on the eve of their opening home match versus Wigan Athletic:
Good luck for you, Tammy Abraham joined Bristol City on loan.
