Tammy Abraham, Aston Villa and Rangers stars react to Matt Targett post

Matt Targett posted on Instagram for the first time as an Aston Villa player on Monday after a deal was agreed to take the left-back from Southampton to Villa Park – and plenty have reacted to the move on his post.

The Express & Star have claimed that 23-year-old Targett has agreed a move to Villa, worth £11.5million up front but could rise to a whopping £17million if certain bonuses and clauses are met.

Villa needed a left-back and have chosen to spend big on an up-and-coming English talent in Targett, with the only other option being Wales cap Neil Taylor. Alan Hutton has left the club on a free transfer.

Targett posted on Instagram following his move from the Saints to Villa, and it prompted plenty of reaction. Fellow new signing Kortney Hause, Chelsea star Tammy Abraham and Rangers midfielder Steven Davis all commented.

TBR’s view – Targett worth every Villa penny

Though the left-sided defender seems to be somewhat expensive, it must be remembered that he has been given this asking price without even being first choice at Southampton.

Ryan Bertrand remains Southampton’s first pick. He is an England international and has captained the Saints on many an occasion. To push the former Chelsea ace and Champions League winner is a mean feat.

Now expected to be one of the first names on the team sheet at Villa, Targett will have the backing of manager Dean Smith to go on and show the Premier League why he can be a future England left-back.
