‘Incredible’ £150k-a-week Leeds man tipped for Manchester United switch despite Elland Road success

Manchester United might have taken the three points against Leeds at Elland Road today and condemned Marcelo Bielsa to another loss, but former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino believes Bielsa could actually be the man for Old Trafford.

Bielsa has done a remarkable job with Leeds. He’s taken them from languishing in the Championship to the Premier League with his hard-hitting and energetic style of play embedded in the side.

However, Bielsa only ever signs year by year deals and there is growing speculation that this might well be his last in West Yorkshire. Certainly, with results having tailed off this season, Bielsa might feel this is the ideal time to walk away.

But according to Cascarino, Bielsa is still a world-class manager and would do a fine job at Old Trafford if given the chance.

“I personally love his brand of football. I think he’d be an incredible fit for Manchester United, they haven’t even considered a manager like Bielsa,” Cascarino said on Talksport today.

“I think he overachieves with players. So if he had a group like Manchester United have got, let’s be honest, Man United’s team, you can’t compare it to Leeds. There’s a massive difference between the two and the levels they’ve achieved.”

Bielsa signed a new contract with Leeds in the summer worth around £8m-a-year (£150k-a-week).

TBR’s View: Bielsa To Manchester United Ship Has Probably Sailed

Cascarino makes a good point about how good Bielsa is, but you do feel he’d have ended up at Old Trafford before now if the club had ever fancied him.

It would certainly be interesting to see. Reports that players aren’t too happy with Rangnick’s training methods are concerning enough for some. So to see how the United players would react to Bielsa’s ‘murderball’ would be intriguing.

However, it seems that we won’t ever see it. United, surely, will go for a younger coach this summer.
