Perry Groves names the Arsenal player that ‘annoys’ him, Arteta reportedly not pleased either

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been criticised by Gunners cult hero Perry Groves on talkSPORT amid reports claiming Mikel Arteta is ready to sell the 21-year-old due to his attitude.

Guendouzi made headlines over the weekend after grabbing Brighton striker Neal Maupay by the throat towards the end of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium.

Maupay suggested afterwards that the Gunners lacked “humility” and hinted at Guendouzi making disparaging comments during the game, which led to the pair clashing at full-time.

The Daily Mail has now claimed that there were taunts from the Arsenal man about how much he and his teammates earned compared to those of Brighton.

The outlet also claims that Arteta has been keeping an eye on Guendouzi from early on in his tenure after re-watching training footage on one occasion and seeing the player “messing about”.

“The thing that annoys me is Guendouzi,” Groves told talkSPORT. “He’s playing in central midfield but doesn’t have the awareness to play that role; getting the ball, getting on the half-turn, bringing people into the game.

“He has energy, like a dog chasing a tyre – his enthusiasm is what he’s about. But I’ve heard a few things that haven’t been great about Guendouzi’s attitude, about having a bit of humility.

“You want your players to be confident and a little bit arrogant on the pitch, but he’s not good enough to go around giving people verbal and giving people stick. The team aren’t good enough!

“If Maupay has been getting it in his ear all game from Guendouzi, and then he scores the winner, he’s absolutely within his right to go, ‘really, what have you got to say now? You want to give me stick? I’ve just scored the winner!’”

TBR View:

It doesn’t matter how talented a player is – if his attitude isn’t spot on, then there could be problems for the manager, and the Daily Mail report, not to mention Groves’ comments, don’t seem to reflect well on Guendouzi.

There is definitely a great player in there, but if Arteta is losing patience with him, then on the plus side, Arsenal should be able to make a decent profit on a player they signed for a reported £7million and is now said to be on Real Madrid and Barcelona’s radar (Le10 Sport).
