Dean Saunders has suggested that Arsenal shouldn’t rest Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli after their performance against Fulham on Sunday.
The duo have been mainstays for Mikel Arteta over the last 18 months, with the young wingers a key reason Arsenal came as close as they did to the Premier League title last season.
Yet performances this campaign have been vastly different, especially for Martinelli, who has only managed two Premier League goals having hit 15 last term.

And speaking on TalkSport, Saunders believed that the answer to getting the pair back to the best is to simply keep playing them, with Saka and Martinelli Arsenal’s main chance creators.
The pundit said on the duo: “If Saka scores that side foot, Martinelli crossed it for him. Martinelli’s missed a chance, Saka crossed it for him.
“And then you listen to everybody afterwards ‘Saka and Martinelli need a rest’. No, they’ve just missed the chances they’ve had. So, the cream always comes to the top and Arsenal will be there.”
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli absolutely need rest

With just three fixtures this January, Saka and Martinelli can finally enjoy some rest having started essentially every game for Arsenal this season.
The pair have once again dragged the Gunners into the Premier League race with new teammate Declan Rice the new talisman in midfield alongside Martin Odegaard.
And after back-to-back losses and two performances that many Arsenal fans have brandished as an embarrassment, rest for Saka and Martinelli could be key in getting the north London side back into top gear.
Moreover, the January transfer window brings Mikel Arteta a chance to find suitable cover for the the wingers, with Arsenal’s current options yet to be trusted by the former Manchester City coach.
