Dean Saunders was critical of how long Aaron Ramsdale spent on the ball for Arsenal in yesterday’s 1-0 win against Brentford.
The £30m goalkeeper was back between the sticks for the Gunners with David Raya unable to play against his parent club, with Ramsdale keeping a clean sheet in west London.
There was a shaky moment, though, as the England international almost gifted Bryan Mbeumo an early goal for the Bees, with Gary Neville criticising Ramsdale for the mistake.

And Saunders was also critical of the former Sheffield United star for the error, with the pundit saying on TalkSPORT (26/11 6:32am) that Ramsdale should not have taken so long on the ball.
Saunders said: “Ramsdale he’s obviously been told to do that. So, the first mistake he’s made, he’s put the ball down in the six-yard box, he’s got two centre-backs either side of him, nearly in the six-yard box.
“Mbeumo’s standing on the edge of the box in the starting blocks as if to say, I dare you. So, he’s done it! But people get carried away that goalkeepers can play out.”
Aaron Ramsdale got lucky with Arsenal error against Brentford

Mikel Arteta is clearly a fan of his goalkeepers taking their time on the ball and waiting for the right pass rather than just hoofing it or playing it short for the sake of it.
Yet such a tactic clearly has its problems, with opposing attackers having more opportunities to dispose the goalkeeper and to get an easy shot away, and that’s where Ramsdale got luck against Brentford.
Indeed, the Arsenal shot-stopper needed a big performance this weekend having been dropped by Raya this season, and whilst the error didn’t help, a clean sheet is exactly what Ramsdale needed.
Although it’s likely that the England international will be back on the bench for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash, Ramsdale overall did well in west London against a strong Brentford side.
