TalkSPORT’s Gabriel Agbonlahor has been waxing lyrical about Arsenal defender William Saliba this evening.
The French defender finally made his first-team debut for the Gunners as they saw off Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last night. And Saliba put in a mighty fine display, dominating from the back and ensuring Palace had little in the way of big chances.

And speaking on TalkSPORT this evening, former Aston Villa man Agbonlahor couldn’t sing Saliba’s praises high enough.
“Saliba by the way, he looks like he’ll be a nightmare. I would have hated to play against him. Him and Gabriel at the back. Both quick, physical, strong, and good with the ball.”
“He’s miles better than Ben White. White gets bullied when he plays centre-half. Gary Neville made a great point on Sky, he’s like a young Rio Ferdinand and that’s exactly what he was like,” Agbonlahor said on TalkSPORT tonight.
Saliba’s inclusion from the off moved the aforementioned White over to right-back. But with Takehiro Tomiyasu to come back in that role, it remains to be seen if White will be pushed to the bench or not.
TBR’s View: Saliba Excellent For Arsenal
What a debut it was from William Saliba for Arsenal last night, and Agbonlahor is right to praise him.
Saliba was nothing short of superb on the night and if he can continue like that, then Arsenal have essentially got themselves a £40-50m defender this summer without spending anything else.
Mikel Arteta will be delighted with what he saw from Saliba and the praise here is warranted.
