TalkSPORT pundit makes negative claim about Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has claimed he’d leave Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford out of his England starting XI due to the fact he can be “over-emotional”.

Pickford, 27, has been the England number one during recent years, and was in-between the sticks during the 2018 World Cup.

The shot-stopper has brilliant reflexes and is superb with the ball at his feet, but has been involved in a few high-profile errors in recent seasons at club level.

He joined Everton back in 2017 for £30million (Sky Sports) from Sunderland, and has been the number one at Goodison Park.

The goalkeeper is capable of the spectacular and has been in stunning form lately, but it always feels like he’s got a mistake in him.

Bent claimed he’d have Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and Burnley’s Nick Pope above him in the goalkeeper pecking order for England due to the fact he’s not a calming influence.

“I do like Jordan Pickford, but he gets a little bit over-emotional. His distribution is second to none, but in situations like the World Cup and Euros you need calm heads,” Bent told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:

If you’ve watched Everton recently, you’ll see that Pickford has looked a lot more assured in net, and is going about his business quietly.

Unfortunately, an injury has kept him out of the England squad during the international break.

Gareth Southgate has gone with Pope in net during the World Cup qualifiers, so it’ll be interesting to see who he selects as his number one during this summer’s European Championships.
