Newcastle were among the favourites to get relegated at the turn of this year. The Magpies had gotten off to a shocking start under Steve Bruce, and many people predicted they’d go down.

Eddie Howe took charge of the club and changed everything. He improved almost every player at Newcastle, but most importantly, he got his recruitment right.

Guimaraes is undoubtedly Newcastle’s best signing in recent years, and Murphy has been really impressed by the Brazilian midfielder.

He said on talkSPORT: “Bruno Guimaraes, what a player. Honestly! Nail him down (to a new contract)!

“He’s got everything. He’s really really tenacious, he’s clever on the ball in brave areas, he can see a pass and he can score.

The only thing with him when you look at how you’re going to set up is whether you play him in the deeper role to get you playing, or do you let him have more licence because he can score a goal. It’s a great dilemma to have, but he has been their number-one signing.

“There have been other good performances and good signings, but he has been their main man.”

Guimaraes really is a tremendous player, isn’t he?

The Brazilian has completely changed Newcastle’s fortunes since he joined the club nine months ago. He has been sensational at both ends of the pitch, and Magpies fans absolutely love him.

The problem for Newcastle now is that a number of clubs are looking at Guimaraes. It’s only a matter of time before a big offer comes in for the Brazilian, which is worrying.

However, Guimaraes’ current deal runs till the summer of 2026, which puts the Magpies in a really strong position. A new contract, however, should be offered ASAP!
