Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he is a big fan of Jack Grealish, The Mirror reports.
Aston Villa lost 3-0 to Man City in the early kick-off on Saturday. But Guardiola hailed Grealish’s “exceptional” talent.
Grealish has been instrumental for Aston Villa in the past few years, helping his boyhood club win promotion and then continuing his good form in the Premier League. The 24-year-old has scored four and provided four assists this season, prompting talk of an England call-up.
Guardiola on Grealish
Guardiola has added to the hype surrounding Grealish. However, he seemed to rule out a move for Grealish. Guardiola said Grealish would be “too expensive” for Man City.
The Man City boss said (via The Mirror): “He’s incredible. A top player. I’m happy he [initially] stayed in the Championship to defend his club. He’s a talented player who always creates something. An exceptional player but too expensive for Manchester.”
Grealish has been the central figure behind Aston Villa’s recent rise. The England hopeful is the creative force behind Aston Villa’s attacking play, even if he wasn’t able to inspire them to a result against Man City.
Guardiola’s praise is high praise – he knows a good player when he sees one. Aston Villa will be under no pressure to sell their homegrown star – hence Guardiola’s comments about him being too expensive.
