Takumi Minamino says striker Arsenal wanted to sign in January is even better than Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry has to be considered one of the greatest strikers of all-time.

He won absolutely everything there is to win at club and international level, and it’s fair to say that he’s one of the greatest of all-time.

However, where Henry ranks in the pantheon of great strikers is up for debate.

Indeed, with so many great centre-forwards in football history, it’s hard to place where Henry fits in among the all-time greats.

Speaking to Goal on TikTok, Takumi Minamino has had the unenviable task of comparing some of the greatest strikers of all-time, and he made a very interesting claim about Henry.

Minamino did say Henry was better than the likes of Ronaldo and Samuel Eto’o, but he also stated that he believes Karim Benzema is better than the Arsenal legend.

Interestingly, this just comes two months after Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for Benzema in the January transfer window.

Karim Benzema is better than Thierry Henry says Takumi Minamino

The Monaco attacker shared his verdict on these great strikers.

“Henry or Benzema?” Minamino was asked

“Benzema,” Minamino said.

“Benzema or Cristiano?” Minamino was asked.

“Benzema,” Minamino said.

Karim Benzema is an all-time great

It’s always hard to discuss the legacy of a player who is still playing, but make no mistake about it, Benzema is an all-time great.

He’s won five Champions Leagues, he’s a Ballon d’Or winner, and if it weren’t for Cristiano Ronaldo, he’d have all sorts of goalscoring records at Real Madrid.

Henry was, of course, electric, and he does have the greater CV in terms of international exploits, but it’s hard to ever argue against five Champions League medals and a Ballon d’Or.

This is a debate that’s bound to split opinion, especially among Arsenal supporters, but if things went slightly differently, Benzema could’ve been playing for the Gunners in January.

Regardless of who you prefer, Benzema and Henry will both go down as absolute legends of the game.
