Liverpool’s newest recruit Takumi Minamino has admitted he needs to up his aggression going forwards.
The Japan international, who was signed from RB Salzburg a few weeks ago for just £7.25 million, has now made three appearances for the Reds.
It’s been a fairly lukewarm start – the attacker is yet to score or assist for his new club, but has drawn plenty of praise from manager Jurgen Klopp.
The German praised Minamino after his Premier League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers, branding him ‘a super boy’ and ‘exactly the player we expected’.
In his own eyes though, there are some aspects he needs to improve including the physical side of things.
He said (Liverpool Echo): “I need to raise my tactical awareness and show my versatility.
“I started in a role [vs Shrewsbury Town] that I’m used to, where I was able to receive the ball in good positions, but in the second half I became less involved.
“I have to be more aggressive.”
TBR’s view – Minamino must adapt
It’s going to take some time for Minamino to get up to speed with English football, but it’s good that he has acknowledged some of the things he needs to work on.
He’s already shown he is a fantastic technician, but it will arguably take the star the rest of the season to truly acclimatise to the rigours of the English game.
