Tottenham took a big hit to their confidence last night as Royal Antwerp saw off Jose Mourinho’s men in a shock 1-0 Europa League win.
Mourinho rang the changes for the trip to Belgium and paid the price in the end for dropping the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to the bench.
The Spurs boss instead gave chances to the likes of Carlos Vinicius, Gareth Bale, and of course, Dele Alli. The England midfielder was given his opportunity to impress despite being outcast somewhat by Mourinho recently.

But Alli was withdrawn after just 45 minutes. And it wasn’t the first time it’s happened this term, either. In just three starts, Alli has been taken off at the break twice, while his other outing saw him withdrawn on the hour mark.
The former MK Dons man’s future has been up in the air as it is. And while he wasn’t the only one at fault last night, it surely was a final nail in the coffin for Alli if he wishes to salvage his career?
A big six months
People are almost forgetting that England have a big tournament to play in next summer. The Euros should, with a bit of luck and an end to the pandemic, go ahead.
Surely, then, Alli wants to be part of that, having already won 37 caps already in his career? With that, the Spurs star needs to be seeking a move. He needs to be playing regularly, getting back to the form that rocketed him to being one of the top midfielders in Europe.

The talent is there with Alli. But last night was a bit embarrassing for him. Being taken off at half-time is a nightmare, and given what we’ve seen of the 24-year-old at times, it won’t go down well.
Dele Alli has all the talent in the world. He cannot waste that talent and needs to get going and back in the England fold to really get his career firmly back on track.
