Takehiro Tomiyasu says one thing at Arsenal has blown his mind already
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has waxed lyrical about his “wonderful” debut for the Gunners.
The Arsenal summer signing says he’s never heard a sound like that of the Emirates Stadium crowd before.
Tomiyasu joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day and he’s contributed to Mikel Arteta’s side getting their form back on track.
The 22-year-old made his debut against Norwich, a game which saw Arsenal pick up their first Premier League win of the season.
Tomiyasu won plenty of aerial duels, looked tidy in possession and was a threat going forward, trying his luck with a volley on the stroke of half time.
Indeed, Arteta’s decision to take the defender off just after the hour raised some eyebrows, though he later explained this was due to cramp.
Speaking ahead of the North London derby, Tomiyasu spoke highly of his first match in red and white.
“The day of my debut was amazing,” the Japan international is quoted by the Arsenal website as saying.
“It was a special day for me because it was my big dream to play in the Premier League.
“Especially to do that at Emirates Stadium as well – it was just wonderful.
“I can tell you that I’ve never heard a sound like that before – never in my life.
“So it was really special for me. I will always remember it.
“That noise came as a surprise to me of course – I’ve not been in front of that many supporters before.
“But during the game I was focussed on playing. I needed to focus on my performance, so that’s what I tried to do.
“It was amazing for me. I could hear it from the moment we walked onto the pitch.
“Then every time when I got the ball or played the ball, I could hear the noise. Then of course the goal as well.”
Tomiyasu subsequently played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win at Burnley the following week.
