Liverpool placed their trust in young striker Taiwo Awoniyi in the summer by handing him a long-term contract.
But he needs to start repaying that faith with goal scoring displays out on loan.
So far this season, he has struggled to make much of an impact at Gent.
The 21-year-old has failed to score in the 10 league games he has played this season. Despite impressing in the Belgian league with Royal Excel Mouscron last year, he is yet to find the net for Gent.
Awoniyi has been more successful in cup competitions. The Nigeria under-23 international has scored once in four Europa League games and also grabbed a brace in the domestic cup.
But his drought in the league is worrying, especially as there is a major jump from Belgian football to Premier League standard.
Considering he will be 22 at the start of next season, Awoniyi will lose his “youngster” tag soon.
And if he is not scoring goals in Belgium, he will not be on Jurgen Klopp’s radar.
If he is to make a name for himself at Liverpool, the powerful centre-forward needs to turn things around at Gent first.
Last season, he netted 10 goals for Royal Excel Mouscron. In order to catch Klopp’s eye, he needs to exceed that total so he will need to find his form sooner rather than later at Gent.
