Sam Allardyce has had an incredible career in management.
The 69-year-old has had some remarkable jobs from England to Everton to Newcastle all the way back to his time at Bolton Wanderers.
Allardyce, whether you like him or not, is a Premier League great, and speaking on the Under the Cosh Podcast, he’s been discussing the managerial jobs he would have liked to have got.
Big Sam says that he would’ve loved to have managed one of the big clubs in the Premier League, naming Liverpool as a team he would particularly liked to have managed.
Sam Allardyce wanted the Liverpool job
The ‘tactical genius‘ spoke about his ambitions to manage a top club.
“Is there any job you wish you would’ve got?” Allardyce was asked.
“You always thought that maybe one of the big ones would’ve come up. That would’ve been nice anywhere, but particularly in the north west if it was Man United or Liverpool,” Allardyce said.
“Were there ever any whispers?” Big Sam was asked.
“No, I don’t think the way I let myself get portrayed in the media would’ve helped with the big boys,” Allardyce said.

Sam Allardyce deserved a big job
Allardyce eventually would become a very unfashionable manager, but there’s no doubt about it, he deserved a big job at one point.
Allardyce had Bolton Wanderers finish in the top eight four seasons in a row in the mid 2000s, almost taking the Trotters to the Champions League at one point.
Unfortunately for Allardyce, the managerial merry-go-round wasn’t what it is today back then.
Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger were both seriously established at Manchester United and Arsenal. Liverpool were just about to hire Rafa Benitez, while Jose Mourinho was embarking on greatness at Chelsea.
Manchester City and Tottenham hadn’t established themselves amongst the ‘big six’ by that point, so the big job never came up for Allardyce.
It would’ve been very interesting to see how Allardyce would’ve got on if he got one of these top jobs.
