Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has insisted his players must ‘thrive’ on the opportunity of facing Leeds United this weekend, as the Whites look to stretch even closer toward Premier League football.
Leeds are currently top of the league on goal difference from West Brom in second, who drew at Blackburn Rovers this weekend. Brentford are the biggest threat to both teams, as the Bees are in sensational form in third position.
Leeds go into the game full of confidence, following a comfortable 5-0 win over Stoke City in midweek.
But Cooper, whose Swansea side were the first team to beat Leeds this season way back in August, believes his players must revel in this occasion, telling Wales Online:
“They’re top of the league for a reason. They have a clear way of playing and have some good players.
“But you’ve got to look forward to this and thrive on it. If you want to achieve, these are the games you’ve got to play well in and win.
“We’re not looking at it from a negative point of view, we’re thinking it’s a great challenge and let’s go for it.”
There is no doubt that Swansea will represent a threat to Leeds this weekend.
But West Brom’s draw has given themselves a chance to stretch clear of the Baggies and put Slaven Bilic’s side in the crosshairs of the increasingly mobile Brentford.
Leeds will just be hoping that Swansea’s players do not raise their game to the highest level this weekend. If they do, then this will undoubtedly be a tough task for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
