Swansea boss explains that Leeds United can be exploited

Leeds United suffered their first Championship loss of the season yesterday as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Swansea City at Elland Road. It was a disappointing day against the Swans, who currently look like a top challenger for promotion this season. The result in itself was more disappointing than the performance, with Leeds feeling they could have secured the win on another day.

It was a result that Swansea boss Steve Cooper was very happy with. He felt there were areas in which Leeds could be exploited, as he explained to Wales Online, and it seems that is where they managed to dig out the win.

“We came here to win that’s for sure, there are obvious areas to exploit against Leeds, and although we didn’t do it quite as well with the ball in the first half, the second half we looked quite dangerous.

“It’s a clear penalty aswell that should have put us 1-0 up and then we get the goal from Wayne from a set-piece. I liked us defensively today.”

When it comes to exploiting Leeds United weaknesses so far this season it is hard to look past set-pieces.

Leeds dominated Nottingham Forest at Elland Road earlier this season, only to concede a scrappy goal from a corner. Today, Wayne Routledge’s 90th-minute winner came in similar circumstances.

It certainly feels as though Leeds have something of an Achilles heel in that area and Marcelo Bielsa will undoubtedly want to tighten up in that regard going forward.
