Sven Mislintat reportedly key to Konstantinos Mavropanos loan decision

It seems Konstantinos Mavropanos will not be getting a chance at Arsenal next season, despite impressing on loan at German club Nurnberg on loan this season, the Greek defender is likely to head back to Germany in another loan deal this summer.

That is according to Football.London, who suggest that Mikel Arteta does not see a place in the Arsenal first-team for the player next season.

They suggested earlier this week that Werder Bremen were the frontrunners for his signature, although Stuttgart were also said to be keen.

Now, it has been reported that Mavropanos has decided on newly-promoted Stuttgart and BILD have even suggested why.

They claim it might have something to do with the presence of former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

Mislintat left Arsenal in February 2019, taking up the sporting director job at Stuttgart that April.

Arsenal fans will remember that the German was the key figure in bringing Mavropanos to The Emirates from PAS Giannina in a January 2018 £1.9 million deal (The Guardian)

Then Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger later suggested, as reported by The Independent, that it was Mislintat who forced through the deal, with the Frenchman having little input.

The Daily Mail later went on to confirm that Wenger had virtually no say in the transfer decision, a rarity under the Frenchman.

It ended up being a deal he appreciated. Mavropanos was initially pencilled in to head straight out on loan to Werder Bremen, but was kept on after impressing in his first week of training.

So it would make sense now that Mislintat would want to lure his first Arsenal signing in on loan. Considering the faith the German has shown in him in the past, Mavropanos is right to push for that path.
