Sven Botman demands Malick Thiaw fix one flaw despite sensational Newcastle performances

Newcastle United’s Malick Thiaw has been delivering some brilliant performances this season, but Sven Botman wants to see more from him.

Thiaw played a key role in the Magpies’ latest victory, with Eddie Howe’s team picking up another clean sheet in their 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Goals from Nick Woltemade and Bruno Guimaraes wrapped the game up for Newcastle, and that saw them climb up to 11th in the Premier League table.

However, Botman felt that Newcastle could have scored more against Nottingham Forest, which is what he wants to see moving forward.

Sven Botman wants Malick Thiaw to start scoring more goals

Thiaw looked to celebrate Newcastle’s latest victory on Instagram, and while Guimaraes was quick to praise him by saying, “what a player” in the comments, Botman was more critical.

He left Thiaw a simple demand as he said, “score man,” evidently wanting the 24-year-old to add some goals to his game.

Thiaw did have a couple of opportunities to score against Nottingham Forest, but only one of his two shots was on target.

Botman has only scored twice since joining Newcastle despite making 84 appearances for the Magpies, and the defensive unit has not contributed much in terms of goals.

Regardless of Thiaw’s lack of goals, he appears to have played his way into Howe’s side. He has now started the last three Newcastle games after being on the bench for the first four.

Malick Thiaw has struggled for goals throughout his career

While defenders aren’t typically known for their goals, the likes of John Terry and Harry Maguire have proven how much they can contribute offensively over the years.

Whether it’s being an aerial threat during set plays or popping up with wonder goals from outside the box, having a defender who can chip in with a few goals can be a difference maker.

However, Thiaw has never been known as that type of player throughout his career, having only scored four first-team goals.

Thiaw has yet to open his account for Newcastle, which Howe might look to work on with him moving forward.
