Sutton says Almiron looks a completely different player this season

Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that Miguel Almiron is a completely different player this season for Newcastle United following his stunning goal at the weekend.

Almiron has enjoyed an unbelievable start to the campaign. The Paraguay international has already found the back of the net three times in the Premier League.

Amazingly, he is already just two strikes away from achieving his best ever tally for the Magpies. And he is a player who has only missed 14 league games across the last three campaigns.

Of course, Almiron scored an amazing goal away at Fulham on Saturday. And that helped Newcastle on their way to an emphatic 4-1 victory at Craven Cottage.

There is an extremely positive feeling around Tyneside right now. Eddie Howe’s men sit seventh in the Premier League table. And it is impossible to argue that the Magpies are not moving in the right direction.

Sutton has backed Newcastle to beat Brentford this weekend. But he also made sure to praise the impact Almiron has had this season.

“I watched Newcastle beat Fulham last weekend and I was very impressed with them going forward,” he told BBC Sport.

“Callum Wilson did well on his return from injury and Miguel Almiron looks a completely different player compared to last season.

“Almiron only got one goal during the whole of that campaign but has three already this time, and his first against Fulham was one of the goals of the season.”

Howe has had a positive impact on a number of Newcastle players. Joelinton has been so impressive in recent months that many do not tend to talk about how he has been transformed anymore.

And Almiron appears to be the latest to step up. He has always worked hard for the side. But he is now combining that defensive contribution with end product at the other end of the pitch.

Had neutrals been told 12 months ago that Newcastle would now find themselves seventh in the table, many would have presumed that the Magpies would have overhauled their squad by spending huge sums of money.

They have brought new players in. But the major success stories have been the players already at the club when the takeover went through.

And Almiron is most definitely looking better than he ever has done for Newcastle.
