'Surprises a lot of people': Raheem Sterling hails 'fantastic' player Liverpool are reportedly working to sign
As per Sky Sports, Liverpool are viewed on the inside as being the club doing the ‘heaviest work’ to lure Bellingham.
The race to sign Bellingham will be so hotly contested, with Real Madrid and Manchester City expected to be on the scene too.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Sterling was asked about Bellingham after both men scored in England’s opening game of the World Cup.
Sterling on Bellingham
Sterling said: “He’s a confident individual. Someone who slots perfectly well into this team. He’s a fantastic player. He’s one that we’ve got to keep letting him do his thing, enjoying his football, not putting too much pressure on him.
“He’ll get to the very top. We’ve got to be patient and just let him flow. He’s doing really well. I’m big on just letting someone be. Let him be. He’s got all the ability in the world.
“You don’t need the added pressure. Leave that onto the guys who have been in situations like this before. He’s someone I would like to see just go under the radar and keep playing his football.
“He’s going to play a vital part in this team. You can see how comfortable he is in possession, how confident and mature he is. That’s something that surprises a lot of people.”
Sterling knows what it is like to be England’s next great teenage hope and go to a World Cup at the age of 19, so he is well-placed to talk about Bellingham.
There is a salient point about not putting too much pressure on Bellingham and letting him develop without that huge expectation.
That performance on Monday will get pulses racing and six more like that could see England crowned world champions next month.
