Wolves are lining up a shock swoop for Stoke City defender Moritz Bauer this month, according to the Telegraph.
They report that Nuno Santo wants to secure some competition for outstanding right wing-back Matt Doherty in the mid-season window and has turned to Bauer.
He has not featured for the struggling Potters since September but showed what he could do in the Premier League after arriving last January – and clearly impressed Santo.
Bauer has a new manager in the shape of Nathan Jones but the Old Gold hope they can convince him to move to Molineux with the offer of Premier League football.
It is not often that a club with the ambitions and financial clout of Wolves will swoop for a player who is not even playing for a struggling Championship side.
But such a move actually makes sense for Santo on this occasion; Bauer proved last season that he is an athletic right back, capable of rampaging forward in the way that Doherty does.
He certainly has the ability to make an impression in the top flight and he will relish the battle with Doherty, after a season which has seen him to struggle to force his way into Stoke’s side.
