Celtic are reportedly looking to sign Huddersfield Town defender Mathias Jorgensen this summer as they look to replace the loss of Dedryck Boyata – but surely Rangers should also be keen on the Dane?
The Examiner have claimed that the 29-year-old is a £4million target for the Hoops, with the Terriers willing to wave goodbye to the 23-time Denmark international this summer. He has a contract until the summer of 2020.
Indeed, Celtic need centre-backs. The loss of Boyata on a free transfer to Hertha Berlin and Filip Benkovic’s loan spell from Leicester City expiring has left the Scottish champions with little option at the back.
Kris Ajer is first choice, but Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper have hardly shown the quality required to be playing for a club like Celtic. The Hoops are reportedly said to have agreed a fee for Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien.

But Rangers need an experienced centre-back like Jorgensen, perhaps known more so for his nickname Zanka. Indeed. the Gers lost both Joe Worrall after his loan from Nottingham Forest expired, and Gareth McAuley left.
Yes, Steven Gerrard has brought in youngster George Edmundson from Oldham Athletic. But the powerful 21-year-old is hardly the short-term solution. With Nikola Katic still young, an experienced head is needed.
Rangers tried to sign Edson Mexer earlier in the window, thus proving Gerrard’s belief that Rangers need an older head at the back. Martin Skrtel has been tenuously linked with a move to Ibrox, once again.
But for just £4million, Jorgensen would be an excellent signing for Rangers and one the Gers have seriously got to consider blowing Celtic out of the water for.
