Surely Leeds need to join Aston Villa and West Ham in reported Vecino race?

Aston Villa and West Ham United have reportedly tabled offers to sign Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino ahead of the January transfer market – but should Leeds United be interested in the South American too?

Inter are looking to raise funds to bring in new players in the January transfer market, with Christian Eriksen the biggest name on that list. But 29-year-old Vecino could also leave, with Inter boasting numerous midfield options.

The Uruguay international is renowned for his passing, work rate and even his ability to notch the odd goal from long range. In 96 Inter appearances, Vecino has scored 11 times – as well as laying on six assists.

Bought for slightly north of £20million, Vecino is likely to be allowed to leave for a smaller fee – or even on loan – in January. He has entered the last 18 months of his Inter contract, making him available for a move.

Italian side CalcioMercato claim Villa and West Ham have tabled offers for Vecino. But Villa are well-stocked in the middle of the park, while West Ham are unlikely to dislodge the likes of Declan Rice or Tomas Soucek.

Leeds, meanwhile, need a midfielder that can provide cover for Kalvin Phillips and one that can permanently partner Mateusz Klich. Rodrigo has been playing in that role, but he is naturally a striker.

While Patrick Bamford continues to score goals – 10 in 15 league games – Rodrigo is likely to play in midfield, but the Spain international does not have the natural midfield instincts required. Vecino would be ideal.

With interest hotting up from Premier League sides in Vecino, surely Leeds need to throw their hat into the ring for a player that boasts plenty of Champions League experience – and give themselves another big-name addition.
