Leeds United are reportedly battling two other Premier League clubs in the race to sign Matheus Pereira this summer from West Bromwich Albion following the Baggies’ relegation – and surely, Leeds have a trump card up their sleeve to get him.

The 25-year-old has been West Brom’s shining light in a dismal campaign that has seen them immediately return to the Championship after promotion from the second tier in 18-19. He has scored 10 goals, and created five more in 31 league games.

The Express claim West Ham and Leeds are battling Leicester City and Champions League club RB Leipzig in the race for Pereira – who West Brom reckon they can get a big sum of £30million for. It will be a tricky race to win for Leeds.

However, they might have the perfect trump card to help them beat West Ham, Leicester and Leipzig. Step forward, Tyler Roberts. Leeds’ number 11 has been in and out of form – as well as the starting line-up – this season, under Marcelo Bielsa.

A £4million (Mail) signing from West Brom, Roberts only ever played once for West Brom’s senior side before leaving – after decent loan spells with Oxford and then Walsall. He never had the chance to make an impact at the Hawthorns.

So, while he was an academy product, Roberts could never repay West Brom for his development. But if Leeds are to sign Pereira, surely Roberts would fall down the pecking order – and would do so anyway with Rodrigo back to full fitness.

West Brom’s relegation means the Baggies need to replace Pereira who is expected to depart and with Roberts looking for more game time – surely Leeds have the perfect trump card. A player-plus-cash deal including Roberts could help get Pereira.

Such an offer might just tempt West Brom into selling Pereira to Elland Road – over Leicester, West Ham and Leipzig. It is a move that would surely suit all parties – Leeds get Pereira, Roberts returns to his boyhood club and will get more game time.
