‘Surely’: Chris Sutton stunned by what Van Bronckhorst did in Rangers loss last night

Glasgow Rangers fell to a 1-0 defeat to Braga in the Ibrox club’s Europa League quarter-final first leg in Portugal.

Chris Sutton was keeping tabs on the Gers match and gave his post-match verdict on Twitter.

While he thought it wasn’t the “worst result” for Rangers, he felt they didn’t do enough in the final third.

Sutton also questioned Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s decision to keep Aaron Ramsey on the bench throughout.

The Wales international arrived at Rangers to much fanfare in the January transfer window.

Ramsey needed a little while to get up to speed at Ibrox but went on to start against Celtic.

The 31-year-old also started the two games against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

However, Van Bronckhorst opted to drop Ramsey against Braga and didn’t bring him off the bench.

Ramsey had to watch as the Light Blues struggled to create any meaningful changes en route to a 1-0 loss.

The Ibrox outfit made a positive start to the encounter, but Braga slowly began to take control.

They broke the deadlock five minutes before the break through Abel Ruiz’s fine finish.

Braga also hit the post and had a goal disallowed during the 90 minutes.

Here is what Sutton made of the match and of Rangers’ display:

Van Bronckhorst said after the match that Ramsey “was fit but we have a big squad.”

Joe Aribo came off the bench but he couldn’t provide the spark for a Rangers equaliser.

Will Ramsey get the chance to change the game when Braga come to Ibrox next week?
