Leeds United are pushing for promotion to the Premier League this season and it is not just fans in the UK that are hoping for the Whites to achieve the feat. Leeds United also have a huge following in Scandinavia. In Sweden, that has been helped by the presence of fan favourite Pontus Jansson at centre-back.
Leeds also have Pawel Cibicki in their ranks, although he is currently out on loan at Elfsborg. At the weekend he took on Jansson’s former club Malmo, including veteran Swedish striker Markus Rosenberg.
He told Aftonbladet of his hope that Leeds can win promotion this season, backing Jansson to take them to the top-flight.
“Sure, we are (getting promoted) with Ponne (Jansson). I have never followed the Championship like I have this year.
“It would be fantastic if he is able to take them up to the Premier League.”
Of course, this is equally as interesting a development when considering the fact Rosenberg’s former team West Brom are one of those also challenging for promotion.
Clearly, the 36-year-old prolific scorer’s allegiances lie with Leeds when it comes to the hope of Premier League football. Jansson is an old friend from their Malmo days and he is clearly high up in Rosenberg’s estimations.
Leeds will no doubt have plenty of Swedish supporters flying to Elland Road for Wednesday night’s game, as they always do. They will also have one Swede cheering them on from home in the 33-cap former Swedish international.
