Newcastle United made a €50million (£42.8 million) move for Hoffenheim striker Joelinton in January.
That’s the extremely bold claim coming from reports in Germany (via Chronicle Live).
Newcastle had been watching the Brazilian striker in the lead up to the January transfer window, with scouts apparently having made several journeys to watch him in the Bundesliga.

The interest appeared to be genuine, with Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen refusing to rule it out by saying: “To be honest, there is not one, there are not five, there are dozens of clubs that are interested in him.”
Joelinton is somewhat hot property having scored 10 goals and made six assists in 29 appearances this season.
The money must be there for Rondon
If the reports coming from Germany are to be believed, and Newcastle did indeed lodge such a huge bid for Joelinton, then it surely suggests that there is enough money to buy loan striker Salomon Rondon permanently.
The Magpies will supposedly have to pay £16 million to sign the Venezuela international from West Bromwich Albion (The Northern Echo)
Fans had been wondering whether owner Mike Ashley will stump up the cash in order to make the striker on of their own.

But if £42.8 million was bid for Joelinton, then those supporters will surely feel there’s no excuse not to sign Rondon.
The 29-year-old has had a good season at St. James’ Park, proving his worth with some powerful displays up top. He’s scored seven goals and registered four assists in 21 appearances.
