Manolo Gabbiadini completed 90 minutes for Southampton in the draw to Watford on Saturday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter hailed him for his performance.
The Saints were held to a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s and it leaves them just outside of the relegation places on goal difference going into the international break.
Mark Hughes’ side were ahead in the 20th minute when attacker Gabbiadini scored a left-footed effort on his return to the starting XI.
But visitors Watford scored a late equaliser in the 82nd minute through Jose Holebas, as he rescued a point for them with his deflected effort.
Gabbiadini has been on the fringes so far this campaign at Southampton, but impressed on his return to the side as he was deployed as a right-winger.
The Italian will be delighted to score his first goal of the season for the Saints and will now hope for an extended run in the side.
He has had a frustrating run this season by starting just two league games, but the Watford clash may be a catalyst and turning point in his time at Southampton.
A selection of supporters on social media praised the 26-year-old for his latest display and feel he played a crucial role.
Here are selection of the fans tweets on Gabbiadini’s performance:
That’s why Gabbiadini should be starting every game. He is a goal scorer. Jeez #saintsfc

Use Gabbiadini right and show him love and he will thrive. Great to see him playing deeper today where he could get more involved. Easily our most intelligent player #Saintsfc

Can’t be bothered to state my frustration and all that, I’ve been a broken record in that respect for 2 years. So will talk about Gabbiadini instead: he was superb. That wide right role is good for him – he works hard, can cut in on his left foot & he’s a goal threat 👍🏻 #saintsfc

Gabbiadini is too good for us. How is he not starting every game

At a loss for words at not winning that.
Lemina was fantastic, Gabbiadini was brilliant & even Hoedt & Cedric had good games.
The commitment was there, but we just need some luck.
So so frustrating. #SaintsFc
