‘Superb’, ‘get him in the team’: Some Rangers fans urge Gerrard to promote 16-year-old gem

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to rejoice in the report suggesting Ibrox academy ace Leon King is set to sign a new contract with Steven Gerrard’s side, as reported by the Daily Record.

The 16-year-old defender is one of the most highly rated youngsters at Rangers, and indeed in the whole of Scotland.

Several sides south of the border, including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Arsenal, are believed to be interested in King’s services.

However, the Daily Record claims that King is set to sign a professional Rangers contract this week which will make him the most highly paid youngsters in the club’s history.

The report says the teenager is to pen a two-year deal worth a six-figure sum to him and his family, with a one-on-one chat with Gerrard said to have convinced him about his Ibrox future.

With Rangers currently in the midst of a disappointing period – Europa League progress aside – the report has been welcomed by plenty of Bears, some of whom took to social media to give their thoughts.
