Leeds United winger Raphinha has been named in Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week, alongside Whites teammate Patrick Bamford.
The Brazilian joined Leeds on transfer deadline day last October, the Elland Road side paying French outfit Rennes a reported £17million fee for his services.
Raphinha has clocked up 21 competitive senior appearances for Leeds, registering an impressive five goals and five assists.
He was once again superb as Marcelo Bielsa’s charges ran out 3-0 winners over Southampton in Monday night’s Premier League clash at Elland Road.
As well as scoring a wonderful free kick, Raphinha constantly tormented the Saints backline with his pace and trickery, creating numerous chances for his teammates.
“Crowned an excellent performance with a superb free kick,” Shearer wrote on the Premier League website.
The England legend also said the following about Bamford: “No English player has scored more PL goals than he this season.”
Raphinha has proven an inspired signing for Leeds, the winger showing he’s got what it takes to shine in the Premier League.
Admittedly, shining for a team that has just come up into the top flight can sometimes prove a double-edged sword when it comes to the established top sides taking an interest.
Leeds are now looking good value for a top-half finish and, with Bielsa at the helm and the prospect of more top players joining this summer, could Raphinha be persuaded to stay on?
