'Super, super happy': Romano says 2021 Liverpool signing has really impressed Klopp in training
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Jurgen Klopp and everyone else at Liverpool are delighted with summer signing Ibrahima Konate.
The Frenchman completed his move to Anfield after the Reds triggered his £36m release clause all the way back in May 2021 (Sky Sports). He only made his way to Merseyside in the summer and he has been very impressive since.
Konate hasn’t really been Klopp’s first name on the team sheet, but he has been given opportunities. He has played a little under 950 minutes in all competitions and he has looked really assured almost every single time.
Romano was asked about Liverpool’s transfer policy now and he pointed out Konate. He revealed that everyone at Liverpool are delighted with how he has been since his move in the summer.
Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool are ‘super, super happy’ with Ibrahima Konate
Speaking about the strategy Liverpool will adopt in the transfer market from now, the journalist told Anfield Watch: “I think it’s going to be an interesting summer.
“Liverpool need to clarify the situation of Salah and Mane. But I think they will look to have some players come in to be behind the big stars with a different level because, of course, Divock Origi is always doing great when he’s called to play but might want something new for his future for example.
“Liverpool are looking for a new midfielder in summer 2022. In defence, they’ve done fantastic business with Ibrahima Konate. I’m told they’re super, super happy with his attitude, how professional he is and how he’s performing and adapting to a new league.
“This is the plan for Liverpool, to have new players behind the big stars, ready to jump into the first team and show their skills.”
Konate’s performances have really been impressive whenever he has played but it’s important to remember that he’s still only 22.
The Frenchman has a lot to learn and who better to guide him than the best defender in the world, Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman definitely has a lot to offer for years to come, but Klopp has been really smart with his transfer business. In Konate, he has a ready-made replacement for van Dijk when he does move on, which is incredible news for Reds fans.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Konate can develop. His potential is absolutely massive and if he can fulfil it under Klopp, he will surely become one of the best in the world.
