'Super': Steven Gerrard raves about selfless' Rangers star Cedric Itten

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Swiss striker Cedric Itten during his pre-match press conference.

The 24-year-old has taken some time to find his feet in Scotland but he remains fancied by his boss.

He has only started three Premiership games but does have five goals to his name in all competitions during 2020/21.

Itten was signed from St Gallen in the summer for a fee in the region of £3 million. During 2019/20 he found the net 20 times and registered seven assists.

STEVEN GERRARD TO ASTON VILLA IS WRONG.

The strong talisman earns £12,500-a-week at Ibrox and has drawn praise from his boss for his efforts this season.

Gerrard told the press earlier today: “Cedric Itten can play both roles, as a 9 or a 10, he has been patient and superb when given his chance.

“I thought he did a good selfless job at the weekend as the lone striker and he didn’t get a huge amount of service.”

Itten has earned his chance with Alfredo Morelos suspended and Jermain Defoe still nursing the effects of an injury.

Rangers take on Kilmarnock tomorrow looking to go 21 points clear of Celtic before they play on Sunday.

Gerrard’s men are edging closer to their first league title for 10 years and a few more goals from Itten could seal the deal.

He has shown when called upon that he could develop into a decent player and perhaps the physicality of the Scottish Premiership has caught him out a bit.

His time will come and he’s showcased enough this season to suggest that he is more than capable of being a squad player for Rangers.

Gerrard’s praise will be a nice confidence booster for the youngster and he’ll hope to continue impressing when he is given chances to impress.
