According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are intent on signing Sunderland wonder-kid Josh Maja. As part of the deal, Jack Hendry or Lewis Morgan could head to Sunderland on loan.

Maja would be a tremendous signing for Celtic, who need to look to the long-term future as well as players who can make an immediate impact.

The 20-year-old is one of the best young talents in the English Football League and is unsurprisingly in high demand.

Given his goal scoring record this season and his contract situation, Celtic must prioritise a swoop for Maja.

This deal could be similar to the one Celtic struck to land Moussa Dembele from Fulham back in summer 2016.

The Frenchman had netted 17 times in 46 games for Championship side Fulham in the 2015/16 season and was regarded as one of the best young strikers playing in England.

Maja is in a similar position now and could look at Dembele’s success in Celtic as a blueprint for his career.

Dembele netted 51 goals in two seasons for Celtic before his summer 2018 switch to Lyon and Maja could follow in his footsteps.

Securing Maja’s services could be a Dembele-type masterstroke by Celtic.
