Rangers and Sunderland are among the clubs interested Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson, according to The Daily Mail.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, Edmundson is wanted by Sunderland, Rangers, Hull City, Stoke City, Preston North End, Fleetwood Town and others.
The 21-year-old is young but already has more than 75 senior appearances under his belt. After establishing himself as a regular at Oldham, he recognises it is time to move on.
If Sunderland win this multi-club race for Edmundson, it would be a major statement of intent ahead of their promotion push next season.
The Black Cats will still be reeling from their play-off final defeat to Charlton Athletic on Sunday. But it is time to put that behind them and build for next season.

Another League One campaign beckons and Jack Ross needs to learn from last season’s mistakes. With Edmundson at the back, his defensive options could be strengthened.
Tom Flanagan, Glenn Loovens, Alim Ozturk and Jack Baldwin have shared the centre-back duties this season. But another player in this department would bolster Ross’ options.
Edmundson fits the bill perfectly. He offers the perfect blend of youth and experience. And he will be eager to learn from others and develop his game.
With so many clubs, including Championship sides and Rangers, chasing Edmundson, Sunderland winning this race would send a message to the rest of the league.
