Sunderland target Stephen Walker has held his own with Hudson-Odoi, Foden and Sancho

Sunderland are reportedly keeping close tabs on Middlesbrough’s young striker Stephen Walker. As reported on the Roker Report, Sunderland have been considering signing the young England youth international on loan this month.

The Black Cats need striking reinforcements. With Josh Maja departing for Bordeaux and Jerome Sinclair’s loan deal finished, Walker appeared to be another target along with main option Will Grigg.

If Sunderland did manage to sign Walker, they would be bringing in a player who has shined among the brightest lights in the English game.

Walker has been in fine form with the England under-19s recently. He has previously played with the likes of Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho at England youth level. Most recently, he has been forming a feared attack with Chelsea’s latest starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The 18-year-old has come to the fore at Stamford Bridge recently and, as reported by The Sun, Bayern Munich want him in a £40 million deal.

When playing together for the England youth selection, Walker has more than held his own with the Bayern target. So Sunderland are after a top young player who could easily emulate the ability of Maja to find the net if snapped up by the Black Cats this week.
