Reading have placed a host of players on the transfer list as they eye a January shake-up.
The Royals currently sit 23rd in the Championship table and are heading for League One unless new manager Jose Gomes can turn things around quickly.
According to The Reading Chronicle, Gomes has told five Reading players they can leave this month.
Marc McNulty is one of the players on this list, having struggled to make an impact at The Madejski Stadium.
McNulty scored 28 goals for Coventry City last season, helping the Sky Blues to win promotion from League Two.
But the jump up from the fourth tier to the Championship has appeared to be too much for the Scotsman.
McNulty has played 15 games for Reading this season, scoring just the one goal and missing a penalty too.
His confidence is low but a move to a League One club could see the nippy striker return to his best.
Sunderland should look to bring in the 26-year-old to bolster their promotion credentials.
With the future of Josh Maja uncertain and Charlie Wyke just returning from injury, another striker could freshen things up.
McNulty is a proven goal scorer in the lower leagues and he could be the man to fire Sunderland to promotion.
The Black Cats should attempt a loan swoop for McNulty in a move that could benefit all three parties.
