Sunderland are on the hunt for a new left-back this summer and Leeds United’s Tom Pearce would be the perfect potential recruit.
Sunderland boss Jack Ross confirmed to the Sunderland Echo this week that a new left-back was necessary this summer. With Bryan Oviedo and Reece James both leaving the club, Denver Hume operated in the role in the Black Cats opening game of the season.
“We would like someone in in that area.
“You can see we have good depth in other areas but it is important for us to have another option and competition for Denver so we will continue to work on that over the coming days.”
Hume struggled at times and a new recruit is clearly needed in the role.
Whilst there is currently no talk of a deal for the Leeds United defender, there is no doubt Pearce would be a good option to fulfill the role.
Marcelo Bielsa has no plans to use Pearce at Elland Road this season. Last week, it was reported by the YEP that Barnsley were keen on the player but so far no deal has materialised.

Which is why Sunderland should swoop.
Prior to Bielsa’s arrival last summer Pearce looked a future star at Leeds. He was handed a new deal in West Yorkshire amid talk of Premier League interest. Pearce even made his debut for the England under-21s.
But the Argentine is simply not a fan of the attacking left-back and Sunderland should seriously consider taking advantage of that fact.
With a loan or permanent deal surely a potential option, Sunderland would be wise to ask the question.
