According to reports, Steven Gerrard is ready to let two talented Rangers starlets leave on loan. The Scottish Sun claims that Jake Hastie and Glenn Middleton will spend the 2019/20 season away from Ibrox.
Both players are talented prospects for the future. But Gerrard wants them to get regular playing time under their belt. Whether they remain in Scotland or move to England remains to be seen.
But Sunderland should have their eyes on both of these players. With another League One campaign coming up, Jack Ross needs to bolster his squad to equip them for an automatic promotion bid.
Hastie and Middleton both have the potential to light up League One. They should look at the example set by Greg Docherty, who reignited his career with a loan move to English third-tier side Shrewsbury Town.

Middleton has already played a handful of senior games for the Gers. The 19-year-old scored five and set up five more last season for Rangers’ first-team.
Hastie joined on a pre-contract agreement after leaving Motherwell. The 20-year-old scored six goals and provided one assist in the Scottish Premiership after returning to Motherwell last January.
Both Scotland U21 players have big futures at Ibrox. But they need a temporary loan stint so their career does not stall. Sunderland should look at bringing one of these in as a short-term fix out wide.
