Ipswich Town want to sign Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood in the summer, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
They report that the Championship’s basement club are keen on the 28-year-old, who is out of contract with the League Two side in the summer.
Norwood has 27 goals across all competitions this season – making him the top scorer in England – so it’s unsurprising that the Tractor Boys want him – most likely in League One next term.
But another side who could do with the goal threat that Norwood can provide is Sunderland, who will be hoping to return to the Championship at the end of the season.

They’ve splashed out on Will Grigg but if they get back up into the second tier, they’ll need more. And although signing Norwood and bringing up a league or two could be a risk, goalscorers tend to score goals no matter what level they play at.
Jamie Vardy is an example of a late developer who has taken on whichever level he has played at and Norwood’s goalscoring form this season shows he could be a similar figure.
But what he needs is for a team higher up the pyramid to take a gamble on him and Sunderland should do that, if they can get him on a free.
