In November, it was reported that Sunderland were lining up a move for Arsenal youngster Joe Willock. The report, from Football Insider, suggested the Black Cats were looking to bring the 19-year-old in on loan from the Gunners in January. They reportedly faced competition from teams in the Championship, Holland and France but were hopeful a deal can be done.

The talk around that deal has now gone somewhat dark. However, it will likely reignite after the FA Cup fixtures yesterday.

Arsenal took on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. This was despite plenty of changes to the first-team from Unai Emery, who gave some of the Arsenal youngsters a chance to shine.

One of those youngsters was Willock and he certainly took his chance.

He scored twice on his FA Cup debut, following on from his strike against Vorskla in the Europa League back in November.

There has not been much more news on Sunderland’s reported interest in the player but based on his display yesterday he would be a quality recruit for the Black Cats. However, some pretty big fish will now be swimming around this potential loan deal after yesterday’s display.
